Budapest Christmas Fair 2012

The end of the year and Christmas are approaching. No matter what are your plans for the holidays, there’s one destination you must put into your schedule: The Budapest Christmas Fair!

The event starts on 18 November and lasts until 30th of December, so you have plenty of time to visit this spectacular attraction. Open every day from 10 am to 8 pm. Will be closed on 24-25 December. The fair takes place on Vörösmarty Square and in Deák Ferenc Street. You will find there amazing floodlights and a huge Christmas tree of course.

Don’t miss out the Hungaricums, such as pálinka, Hungarian wines, the Töki Pompos, chimney cake, handmade gifts and fantastic dishes. Or just have a hot mulled wine while walking around the decorated shops or watching nice folklore concerts. The entry is free and there will be free wifi spots too.

„Europe’s best Christmas Fair” (Sunday Sun, 2008; Budapester Zeitung, 2010)

How to get to the Vörösmarty Square? Take the yellow (No.1.) underground line, and get off at the last station. Or travel by any other underground to the Deák Square and take a short walk to the Vörösmarty square.

Not far from here, at the St. Stephen Basilica, on the square in front of it, you can ice-skate around another beautiful sparkling pine. The Váci Street also has its Christmas decoration, and all the usual fashion stores, souvenir shops and restaurants you may wish to visit as a traveller. Naturally most of the squares and larger avenues are floodlighted, and there are Christmas theme in the Great Market Hall and a smaller fair on Liszt Ferenc Square.
